The Porsche Kremer 8 was the evolution of a previous benchmark, the Porsche 962. The 962 dominated the Group C racing category from 1984 through 1994, scoring a remarkable nineteen Constructor's Championships across various series. When the Le Mans Prototype (LMP) category emerged, the LMP1/C90 class was created to allow older cars to compete against the latest-generation prototypes.
