We’re still unboxing the ‘new’ Mondraker Factory Racing team. We haven’t yet experienced the tension of a World Cup start gate, nor the roar of the crowds just behind the tape nor the thump of the tyres through the berms. But it won’t be long now!!! The 2024 Downhill World Cup is kicking off from the 3rd to the 5th of May in Fort William, Scotland, and everyone here at Mondraker Factory Racing is primed. We have the experience. We have the technology. Bring it on, ‘cos it’s time to take the podium!
Rónán, Dakotah and Ryan together with the rest of the Mondraker Factory Team are off to the first round of the 2024 DH World Cup, from Fort William, Scotland, fresh from a final week’s training at Team Camp. A week that served to fine tune the SUMMUM DH bikes they’ll be racing on this season and to get everything else up to speed (such as the new team truck). The last few tweaks to bikes and equipment to make sure we’re hitting the ground running.
This season is starting with a bang as Fort William is one of the most spectacular World Cup venues out there, and it’s the first of seven World Cup downhill races this year. After Fort William we’ll be visiting Bielsko BIala, Leogang, Val di Sole, Haute-Savoie, Loudenvielle and Mont-Sainte-Anne.
The Fort William DH track is the longest of the year at nearly 3km in length. Strewn with huge granite boulders, even the fastest riders take around 5 minutes to get down it. It’s physically gruelling, even for the fittest athletes and the slightest of errors will make you pay, dearly. Beware, this track takes no prisoners! Maximum speeds are around 55km/h and the motorway section has 20m long jumps, just when the riders are at the end of their physical reserves. Add to that Scotland’s unpredictable weather and anything could happen. Did we mention it’s got one of the wildest crowds anywhere in the world? It’s going to be an absolute belter of an opening round!!!
