While maintaining the identity and mountain bike DNA of the new DUSTY e-Gravel bike range, the SX version comes with components and extras to make it the fastest URBAN bike around. It’s both a city bike, and the perfect tool for your weekend getaways out of town. Asphalt, trails or weekend long expeditions. You choose.   

MAHLE X20 MOTOR

Building on the DUSTY platform guarantees flexibility and dependability. We’re talking about a STEALTH AIR CARBON frame, a MAHLE X20 motor built into the rear hub, and a 350Wh battery integrated into the downtube. Added to that are purpose made colour coordinated aluminium mudguards, and 700x40C Maxxis Re-Fuse semi-slick tyres to give you all the speed you need on-road, plus all the grip you need while out on the trails.

THE TWO MODELS IN THE DUSTY SX RANGE


The DUSTY SX range has two models, the DUSTY SX R and the DUSTY SX RR, both of which have the same STEALTH AIR CARBON frame and MAHLE X20 motor with a 350Wh integrated battery.  


The DUSTY SX R comes factory fitted with an SRAM Apex 1 1x11 chainset, MDK-HG1 wheels, Maxxis 40mm Re-Fuse tyres, ONOFF components and a Selle Royal Prestige saddle. The DUSTY SX RR is the top of the range model and comes with an SRAM RIVAL ETAP AXS 1x12 chainset, Mavic Allroad Disc wheels, Maxxis 40mm Re-Fuse tyres, ONOFF components and a Selle Royal Prestige saddle.

The DUSTY SX frame is constructed from a very deliberate selection of different carbon fibres, the result of which we call STEALTH AIR CARBON. Just like its cousin the DUSTY, the SX provides responsive handling thanks to a laterally stiff headtube and bottom-bracket (the two areas which most affect pedalling efficiency) while at the same time providing handling which is sharp and nimble.     


This careful blend of carbon fibres lends the frame a great balance of comfort, shock absorption and support. Riding over washboard surfaces, or along rough, broken tracks shows just how comfortable the frame truly is; and the stable, confidence inspiring geometry is the icing on the cake. 


And if that wasn’t enough, the DUSTY SX exceeds the same ISO tests as all of our mountain bikes too.

CORE FRAME DETAILS

Dropped seatstays.

The design of the seatstays provides unrivalled comfort. The damping they provides on uneven trails not only reduces fatigue but also provides greater control of the back end of the bike, and in conjunction with short chainstays (425mm) they create a very compact and agile rear triangle.

2x Drivetrain Compatible Frame

Because not everyone uses 1x drivetrains, the DUSTY SX range is fully compatible with double chainring drivetrains.


Integrated chainstay protector

Featuring a made-to-measure rubber chainstay protector to keep your DUSTY SX scratch-free.


Integrated bar and stem cable guiding

The DUSTY SX comes with an ONOFF handlebar and stem combo which guide the wiring internally, keeping all of those cables completely hidden. No covers or cables to bother you when gripping the handlebars, and the spectacular minimalist design of the DUSTY SX goes unspoilt.


DUSTY Carbon fork

Our carbon fork is as versatile in use as the DUSTY SX itself. We’ve routed the wiring internally so that it doesn’t interfere with the multiple anchors for water bottles, bags, or pannier supports. We’ve included a standard “Post Mount” brake caliper mount, we’ve taken stiffness to the max with the 12mm thru-axle, and we’ve designed the minimalist dropouts to keep everything well out of the way. We’ve even catered for tyres up to 47mm wide.


Mudguards

The DUSTY SX comes fitted with custom made colour coordinated mudguards with aluminium supported. Perfect for the rainiest of days.

THE MOST NATURAL ASSISTED PEDALLING FEEL EVER


The Mahle system, comprising the X20 motor and integrated 350Wh battery, weighs in at only 3.6kg (including the integrated 350Wh battery) and assists your pedalling naturally, offering a frictionless 55Nm of torque with a seamless start and cut off to the assistance. The Mahle X20 motor integrated into the rear hub is not only the most advanced in its class, it’s also the lightest.


The DUSTY SX's natural pedalling feel is one of its key features when it comes to managing the way you receive assistance from the Mahle X20 motor. Regardless of the level you select (there are 3 levels in all) there's no need to change the way you pedal as you’ll hardly notice the seamless transitions between each and every start and stop of the motor’s assistance. As such none of the 3 levels of assistance feel intrusive. Even in assist mode 3 (the maximum) we’ve maintained the same natural pedalling feel thus avoiding any unwanted power spikes.

THE MORE YOU PUT IN, THE MORE IT GIVES BACK

Whichever of the 3 available assistance levels you choose, the lack of aggressive transitions when pedalling provides an outstanding balance between the power that you apply and the assistance provided by the Mahle X20 system.


As such the assistance of the motor in all three levels is applied progressively and is proportional to how you pedal. The harder you pedal the more assistance you’ll get from the motor to the point where it’s capable of equalling all of your pedalling power. However, much power is provided by the system, regardless of the selected level, the contribution is progressive and completely natural.


‘WATTS ON DEMAND’ ASSISTANCE BY MONDRAKER

The DUSTY SX has 3 levels of assistance, each fully configurable by the user through the MySmartBike application. We’ve collaborated with Mahle on the development of specific firmware to define the assistance characteristics of the motor for use on gravel bikes. As a starting point the objective we set ourselves was to simulate the effort made by the rider at all times, without the assistance of the motor exceeding the sensation of a natural pedalling feel. This is the concept that we call “WATTS ON DEMAND”.


We follow these three core principles:

- Non-intrusive system.

- Sufficient support to satisfy use for gravel riding.

- “Unlimited” range.




EACH LEVEL HAS 3 FEATURES WHICH ARE FULLY CONFIGURABLE BY THE USER

Peak Power: The maximum power that the system gives you at all times.

Reactivity: Sensitivity of the system at the moment assistance starts.

Acceleration: How quickly the system reaches 'Peak Power' (maximum assistance).


As such level 1 has a continuous power contribution of 25%, level 2 reaches 50% and level 3 goes up to 200% (varying between 75 and 200% depending on the torque input by the rider). Unlike other systems the Mahle X20's assistance is based on the torque (application of force) produced by the rider, rather than cadence. The assistance offered by the system is always proportional to the effort exerted by the rider, as if it were a power amplifier. The sensor that controls the power (torque) applied by the rider is located in the bottom bracket.

The DUSTY SX adds extra versatility to the URBAN CROSS range. The DUSTY SX offers cargo options such as pannier racks and panniers, frame bags (such as the custom made models from Apidura) and bikepacking bags too if you want to tackle some weekend adventures. COMPLEMENTARY APIDURA BAGS FOR THE FIRST 200 BIKES SOLD


To further compliment the character of your DUSTY SX while on expeditions or weekend getaways, the first 200 DUSTY SX sold will come with custom made complimentary APIDURA bags included. Made from 420D nylon they’re totally waterproof and come with sealed zips. The lower mounted frame bag fits to the frame via Velcro straps, while the top tube mounted bag has two different fitments via screws mounted into the top tube itself. The lower mounted bag has a capacity of 0.9 litres while the top tube bag can carry up to 0.4 litres of kit.
