CRAFTY UNLIMITED GULF EDITION

A LIMITED PRODUCTION RUN OF THE MOST EXCLUSIVE, RACE-INSPIRED CRAFTYS EVER

This is our latest collaboration with Gulf.
This is our latest collaboration with Gulf.

A partnership that brings things back full circle; motorsport and craftsmanship, perfectly aligned with our other Gulf editions: Neat and Dusty X. Now it’s the turn of the Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition.

Prototypes can become production models, but only if they prove their worth. Sometimes in their tens of thousands, rolling off the production line like clones; and others as part of a limited run, often created exclusively for competition, handcrafted, numbered, and finished by artisans who merge cutting-edge technology with the refinement of traditional craftsmanship.

Craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technology. A beautiful combination that, back in the 1990s, led to some of the most extreme race cars in history. Cars such as the Porsche K8. The K8 was a remarkable machine that serves today as the inspiration for the ultimate expression of the Mondraker Crafty. A one-of-a-kind Crafty, hand-painted in the original Gulf colours.

Crafty Unlimited: Unlimited, yet limited to a very few fortunate individuals worldwide.

PORSCHE KREMER 8: THE INSPIRATION

The cockpit of a Porsche Kremer 8 couldn’t be more different from that of a Crafty. Yes, the raw materials, carbon and aluminium, are shared (and they haven’t lost any of their allure in the interceding forty years) but the switches, the lights and the stickers which explain the purpose of each and every button inside the Kremer 8 reveal the craftsmanship of the 1990s. (Craftsmanship, yes, but back then it was bleeding-edge race technology).

LIKE MANY RACE CARS, THE PORSCHE KREMER 8 WAS AN EVOLUTION

As with most racing cars, the Porsche Kremer 8 was the product of the evolution of a previous model, in this case the Porsche 962. The 962 had dominated the Group C racing category from 1984 through to 1994, scoring a remarkable nineteen constructor's championships across various series. When the Le Mans Prototype (LMP) category emerged, the LMP1/C90 class was created to allow older cars to compete against the latest-generation prototypes, and this was the moment when the Kremer brothers set to work creating the K8’s predecessor, the K7. They transformed the 962CK6 by removing its roof and windscreen, replacing the doors with new bodywork, and repositioning the driver at the centre.

That car became known as the CK7 Spyder. A year later, chassis 07-2 was further developed into the Kremer K8, a two-seater “Spyder” concept, open-top, 900 horsepower prototype.

THE ORIGINAL GULF COLOURS

Gulf’s association with motorsport took shape in 1967, when a Ford GT40 Mark I raced at Daytona, decked out in the original Gulf Oil racing livery. Driven by Dick Thomson and Jackie Ickx, it featured the brand’s corporate colours: a deeper shade of blue paired with a darker orange.

That very first GT40 went on to become a piece of motorsport history, as those hues would only be seen on that one occasion, because from then on Gulf decided that they wanted a more vibrant look to ensure maximum visibility on the track.

Having recently acquired the Wilshire Oil Company, Gulf adopted its brighter, lighter pastel blue and a striking calendula orange. This, later paint scheme, is one we took for the Gulf editions: Neat and Dusty X.

The result was one of the most iconic colour schemes in racing history, arguably the most recognisable of all time. So much so that Gulf became the first lubricant company to officially register its racing colours.

For the Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition we’ve gone with the original Gulf Oil colours, immortalised on that very first Porsche Kremer K8, now reborn as the inspiration behind the one-of-a-kind Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition. A creation that marks the culmination of Mondraker’s close collaboration with Gulf, following in the footsteps of the Dusty X Unlimited Gulf Edition and the Neat Unlimited Gulf Edition.

UNLIMITED: WITH BOOK, PAINT KIT AND CERTIFICATE
UNLIMITED: WITH BOOK, PAINT KIT AND CERTIFICATE

The Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition arrives as our latest collaboration with Gulf, following the Neat Unlimited Gulf Edition and Dusty X Unlimited Gulf Edition, but this time adopting the brand’s original Gulf Oil racing colours. It represents the final chapter in this partnership, embodied in our most advanced and sought-after eMTB.

This exclusive edition will see very few, numbered units available worldwide. Each bike will include its production number, a matching touch-up paint kit in orange, blue and silver, and a spectacular commemorative book recounting the story of the Porsche Kremer 8. A tribute to the passion shared by both brands, and to Gulf’s motorsport heritage, colours that are legendary, and which now also form a part of the Mondraker Crafty legacy.
