Where did you grow up, and how has your hometown shaped who you are?

Ive grown up in Cape Town my whole life, I really love where I live and wouldn’t change anything. I went to a traditional all boys school where Rugby was the main sport and I was one of the only guys in there school that cycled. It really helped having friends that weren’t cyclists and enjoyed other things.

How would you describe your riding style in three words?

I think I ride quite aggressive but smoothly, I’ve raced enduro in the past and believe my technical skills are above average.

Do you have a favourite trail or terrain? What makes it special to you?

I don’t have an exact favourite trail but I really love super steep, slow and technical downhills as well as bike park trails.

Is there an animal in nature that you feel reflects your personality or abilities?

Cheetah, laid back most of the time but lighting fast when needs be.

What’s a personal story or achievement in your life (on or off the bike) that you’re most proud of?

Getting through my Ankylosing spondylitis, I was diagnosed when I was 13 and it was a really tough time for me.

Looking ahead, what’s one goal you have for your riding career or personal life?

I want to become a world champion one day

If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Do not compare yourself to others, you are on your own journey.

Do you have any personal heroes or role models growing up?

A good friend and a hero of mine Manie Lubbe, he was a couple years older than me and we would train together and he always pushed my limits and made me so strong all while having fun. He sadly passed away when I was still in school and I ended up getting a tattoo of an inside joke we had in memory of him.

Are there any hobbies outside of mountain biking that you're passionate about?

I’ve been really getting into enduro Moto riding and would one day like to do the roof of Africa.

If you had a free weekend to do anything, how would you spend it?

I would organise a weekend of riding motorbikes in the mountains and exploring getting lost while riding super technical trails with friends.

If you weren’t a pro rider, is there another career that you think you’d pursue?

The couple times I’ve snowboarded I really loved it so I think I would have loved to become a pro snow boarder, the freedom and the amount of fun I’ve had while snowboarding is unmatchable.
