Ready for the urban jungle

Swapping any urban car journey for an e-bike ride is a hands-down win-win for you and for the planet: you get a regular ‘free’ workout to whatever level you choose; you never get held up in frustrating traffic jams; and the environment can breathe more easily as you avoid contributing harmful CO2 and other emissions..

For commuting, for school, for shopping, for fun and for socialising – whatever the reasons for your journey there’s a strong chance that you can ditch four wheels and do it far better with two, and you’ll know you’re making the right choice.

And there are a lot of other people thinking the same way. Governments around the world are increasingly convinced that it’s the right choice, and many are actively running financial incentives and schemes to help with purchases of the most environmentally friendly transport, with e-bikes being the top of the tree. Check out what’s happening where you live – you might be pleasantly surprised!

When you discover it’s possible to do that with a thoroughbred bike design, packed with thoughtfully ergonomic features, generous luggage capacity, and powerful motor and drivetrain paired with high-capacity batteries, it becomes an even more compelling argument. And with Mondraker’s trail-proven technology and materials – our mountain biking DNA – underpinning that urban-optimised design, you know handling, balance, comfort, durability and rideability will be second to none.

We think the same.

Our all-terrain bike chassis, innovative geometry and tough yet sensitive suspension lend themselves well to the city just as they do the extra-urban environment. Swapping drop-offs for curb-stones, rock gardens for drain covers, hydration packs for grocery essentials and the forest sections for the queues of stationary cars, there’s still riding fun to be had alongside the satisfaction of doing the right and responsible thing.

So we made two new Urban Cross models – Prime X and Thundra X – to do just that. With town-specified equipment such as fenders, comfortable cockpits and saddles, lights, and luggage racks, they’re ready for all the different demands of urban riding.

Both models share some fundamental characteristics. Prime X and Thundra X share their Forward Geometry frames and down-tube internal batteries with the Prime and Thundra trail bikes that take their names from.

They have lightweight and strong alloy frames available in a full range of five sizes, with fast-rolling, robust 29-inch wheelsets and highly capable 120mm-travel RockShox Recon Silver RL 29 forks, and run Boost axle standards and 12-speed transmission systems. Both have powerful, easy to control electric motors to assist you through town – made by the best brands on the market.

But they differ in some details so you can choose the model that suits you perfectly. Prime X’s 6061 Xtralite Full Butted Alloy frame features an internal removable Bosch Powertube 625Wh battery which powers the Bosch 4th generation Performance Line CX Cruise motor and is paired with the Bosch Purion display. While Thundra X also has a frame constructed from 6061 Xtralite Full Butted Alloy, it features an integrated internal Simplo 630Wh battery non-removable, so super-secure wherever you go – and there is an optional external battery pack for even greater range and flexibility. The Thundra X’s Shimano STEPS E7000 powerplant is matched to the STEPS E5000 display.

The 780mm wide Onoff Sulfur 6061 alloy handlebars have a 20mm rise, 9º backsweep, and 5º upsweep and Onoff Twin 135mm grips for maximum city comfort. Both bikes also feature the supportive and comfortable Mondraker e-MTB custom design saddle.
And to make sure you're the king or queen of the urban jungle, both feature powerful front and rear lights, full-length front and rear fenders, a neat, lightweight kickstand on the chainstay and a sturdy rear luggage rack.

Day or night, rain or shine, fully-loaded or travelling light, and whether you’re dressed to impress or keeping it casual, Mondraker’s Urban Cross bikes will get you there, and back, in comfort, and in style. And all with an approving nod and smile from Mother Nature, and maybe with a helping hand from a government funding scheme.
