WE’LL BE BACK IN A MONTH, IN SWITZERLAND
The next event in the XC World Cup calendar sees everyone travelling to Lenzerheide, Switzerland for the weekend of the 9-11 June. Nové Město is history. In Lenzerheide we’ll be taking no prisoners.
The first round of the XC World Cup kicked off last weekend in Nové Město, in the Czech Republic with a wet and slippery track keeping the riders on their toes. The Primaflor-Mondraker-Genuins team didn’t get the start to the season they were looking for with a man down in the form of Ondrêj Cink, who unfortunately spent the whole weekend too unwell to compete. That left Bec Henderson to fight through an eventful race to take home an 8th place in Sunday’s XCO.
With Ondrêj out of both the XCC and XCO events it was up to Bec Henderson to carry the flag. Unfortunately, the XCC race saw her crash out, and once back in the saddle she spent the rest of the race fighting her way back to a well-earned 17th position.
Sunday’s XCO race brought back memories of the 2022 World Cup and her 1st place last year. This year saw a strong start and a race spent fighting among the top 10 in an attempt to make it two years in a row. In the end she took home an 8th place and some valuable World Cup points. The Dutch rider Puck Pieterse took home the win for 2023.
The U23 rider Francesc Barber took part in his first XCC on Thursday to cross the line in 26th place. He also came 44th in the final of the XCO. Marta Cano competed in the Junior women’s event and finished 17th in the UCI Junior Series. Both of them are racing as part of the Spanish MTB Selection.
