Top flight gravity MTB racing returns this week with the 2020 Crankworx World Tour: Innsbruck, Austria. It feels like an age since Crankworx Rotorua in March, but for one rider in particular, it’s been even longer since his last taste of competition.
MS Mondraker rider Brook Macdonald will return to pro MTB racing for the first time in over a year. After a bad crash that left him with two broken vertebrae and wondering if he would be walking again, let alone riding, Brook is more excited than ever to be back racing. Could he even repeat his Innsbruck victory from 2019 – part of his amazing Crankworx form last year that saw him also win at his home track, Rotorua, and storm the Crankworx DH overall with more than double the points of his nearest rivals.
“It feels amazing to be coming back”
Brook told the Crankworx team. “I haven’t raced in over a year, so to be able to be back in the racing scene is going to be the best… this is a great opportunity to get back into the mental side of preparing myself to race again and at a competitive level.”
The Kiwi will be joined by three teammates to compete in the iXS Innsbruck Downhill - Brits Laurie Greenland and Mike Jones, and Italian Eleonora Farina. They’ll be putting on the pressure on the slopes in anticipation of the Downhill events in the UCI World Champs, also in Austria, straight after Crankworx.
