JOFRE CULLELL AND SARA MÉNDEZ CHAMPIONS OF SPAIN!

This weekend, Jofre Cullell and Sara Méndez have become Spanish Champions in Under 23 and Junior categories respectively. A great success fot the PMX Racing team in the demanding circuit of Sabiñánigo.

The hot weather and the dust have been the main theme in the Spanish XCO Championship in Sabiñánigo, Huesca. This wasn't an impediment for the PMX Racing riders to reach the top of the podium in their respective categories.

On Saturday, Jofre won with impressive authority. From the beginning of the race Jofre set a strong pace that could only be followed by a couple of other riders until Cullell saw that he could push a bit more and open a gap, and so he did. He increased the pace and rode alone until the end of the race.  With this win, Jofre achieves his fourth Championship win in this category just before the most important event of the season: the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Jofre said: "I´m very happy to win my fourth consecutive Spanish U23 Championship. We were three riders off the start, but then I saw that I had more pace so I decided to push and continue at my own pace lap by lap until I got the victory. I'm satisfied with the victory, in a very hard circuit caused by the heat and the dust".

On the other hand, Sara Méndez started Friday with a second place in the Team Relay category representing Catalonia. But Sunday was a different story. From the start of the race, she imposed her strong pace that led her to win comfortably in the Junior category. The bad news was that as soon as she reached the finish line, she suffered a heat stroke and had to be taken to the hospital: "The feeling was very good, I was able to manage a good pace from the beginning of the race and be super comfortable and consistent. It's a pity that just after crossing the finish line I felt sick and suffered a Lipothymia because of the heat. They had to take me to the hospital for tests, but luckily I'm fine now".
